What is Normal Vision?

In the normal eye, light is bent  (refracted) by the curve of the cornea and lens to focus clearly on the retina.

What is Myopia?

With myopia (nearsightedness) the eye is too long (or cornea is too steep) causing light to focus in front of the retina. When the image reaches the retina it is out of focus (blurred).

What is Hyperopia?

Hyperopia (farsightedness) is a condition where the eye is shorter (or the cornea is flatter) causing light rays to focus behind the retina. When the image meets the retina it is out of focus (blurred).

What is Astigmatism?

Astigmatism is a condition where the cornea or lens is shaped like a football with two curves or powers.  Each curve focuses light rays in a different spot.  If these light rays do not focus on the retina, the vision is blurred.
